Organizing The Perfect Closet Once and For All
You have unearthed the perfect apartment. Natural light is bellowing in through the windows, the kitchen are roomy, and you can't wait to relax in the garden tub. As you start putting your items into the closet, it becomes evident you may have too many clothes. And shoes. Maybe your roommate won the bigger closet, your +1 actually has more clothes than you, or the space is more cramped than you recalled. Here are a few tricks to make the most out of your closet space.
Hangers Trump Folded Piles!
Hangers are typically seen as a necessary evil. Acquiring hangers is something on your to-do list and not thought of as fun. However, the types of hangers you use in your closet can increase or minimize space. Using velvet hangers will free up so much space in your closet and they are easy on the wallet. Also, keep your hangers the same color. It's all too easy to become distracted by unorganized hangers.
Organize with a Plan!
After you've switched hangers, organize your shirts by color then sleeve length. You know the drill - combing through shirts to find your go-to sleeveless blue button up. Organizing your closet from short to long is easy, but have fun with it! Don’t forget you’re the one who has to look at it every time.
Having Folded-Clothes isn't the End of the World!
Not everything must be on a hanger. Your sweaters, shirts, and jeans can all be folded into drawers or shelves. Folding items will keep the closet immensity down. The contrast between hanging and folded clothes will ensure you see your clothes more readily.
All Space is Used Space!
Take advantage of extra storage for the bottom half of the closet. Keep the clothes you folded or accessories in the cubbies and keep shoes underneath. If there is still room, the top area of the organizer can be used. There is no reason to leave empty space in a closet - only untapped possibilities.
Last Call...
If space allows in a bedroom, a rolling rack is the perfect addition to any closet. Be proactive and plan your outfits ahead of time, use your go-to pieces as decor, or you can still use the rolling rack as extra storage space.
